We are having so much fun massaging our feet with balls.  Some of my Chair Yoga friends have bought their own balls and practice at home.  Julie had been practicing foot massage on a regular basis until her dog stole her ball!  Hope you find your ball Julie!  Beth and Tim found some balls at Dollar Tree Store that have ribs.  They come in a 2-pack
for a...um...$1.  They are a little harder than the ones we have been using in class and feel great against my foot.  We have been using balls that come in a 3-pack.  All of the balls are found in the children's toy section at the Dollar Tree Store.

Foot Massage

Last week I completed an anatomy class at Sanctuary Studios.  It was awesome.  During the class we learned an "undoing" technique for the feet.  Basically we were massaging  of our feet to loosen any knots and stimulate the tissues.
The Ball: I use an 1.5" diameter ball that is fairly stiff, but has a little give.  You can find them in gumball machines or at the dollar store.  Try different sizes and types of ball to see what is best for you.
  • Sit or stand: Standing puts more weight on your foot which allows the ball to reach deeper into the tissues of your foot.
Remember to breath as you roll your ball!

  • Place the ball under your heel and roll the ball up to the mound of the big toe and back a few times.
  • Repeat with each toe.
  • Roll the ball side to side across the ball of your foot.
  • Roll the ball side to side across your heel.
  • Roll the ball in circles under your arch.
  • Notice how your foot feels!
Click on the picture above for a link to a video of this technique at www.centerworks.com.
Have fun with this and please reply with your experiences!
